Women have always wanted beautiful, well-proportioned lips.  Angelina Jolie, Sophia Loren, Rihanna, Scarlett Johansson… all stunning women with notably full lips.  No wonder, then, that women the world over wish to emulate those lovely pouts.  Despite our very modern perception of lovely lips and the techniques we employ to achieve them, helping things along a little is, in fact, far from a new idea.  The image of the perfect pair of lips has altered through the ages too.  Happily, technology has moved on, as has our understanding of how to achieve that much-desired sexy smile.

Today, one of the most popular and best known methods of lip enhancement is injectable synthetic fillers.  The lips will appear to have greater volume and will feel soft and natural.  Lip fillers are a simple and safe solution.  The procedure has the added advantage that it can be carried out in the consulting room with instant results.  Make up can be applied immediately afterwards if desired.  This is among the most cost effective solutions too.

Lip filler treatments cost from £250.

A longer lasting method of enhancing the lips is autogulous fat transfer.  A few millilitres of fat are harvested under local anaesthetic, usually from the abdomen, flanks or buttocks.  This fat is then injected into the lips.  Although there may be a degree of reabsorption of the injected fat, lip enhancement using this method is far more long lasting and will achieve natural looking results.

Lip augmentation using fat transfer is available from £950.

Lip reduction is a popular choice for women and men who may feel unhappy and self-conscious about the size and volume of their natural lips and wish to reduce them.   Although fuller lips are a common feature of certain ethnicities, anyone can have larger lips.   It is quite common for people of Afro-Caribbean descent who come to live in Europe to undergo lip reduction.

Mr Shailesh Vadodaria is highly experienced and extremely skilled in lip reduction surgery.  He has a passion for cleft lip and palate surgery, having performed the procedures on countless occasions all over the world over the last 25 years.  This has given him a unique understanding into the anatomy of the mouth, which has informed his expertise on lip reduction techniques.

Lip reduction is a surgical procedure and can be performed under local anaesthetic as a day case.   The sutures are dissolvable and should start to come away within a week or so.

Generally the procedure takes around thirty minutes.

The effects will gradually lessen, but should last for anywhere between three and eighteen months.

You may experience redness, swelling and perhaps itching, although these will dissipate in a few hours. Swelling may take a day or two to disappear.

The procedure is usually carried out under local anaesthetic, so you will be able to walk out of the clinic after a couple of hours. The lips will be swollen and feel numb. The numbness will fade away within around one and a half hours; the swelling may take several days to resolve.

Our patients are given appointments to return to the clinic one and six weeks after their procedure for follow up consultations.
